There is extensive knowledge about the effectiveness of treatment for mental disorders and substance abuse issues from randomized controlled trials. However, we lack knowledge about the effectiveness of such treatment when provided by regular healthcare services.
The research group utilizes clinical routine data from the hospital’s electronic patient records and administrative systems to address such questions. It is currently essential to resolve technical, legal, and practical challenges associated with linking data from the hospital to other relevant registries, such as Norwegian Prescription Database, Norwegian Patient Registry and Cause of Death Registry.
Additionally, the group conducts systematic reviews of quantitative (including meta-analyses) and qualitative research. We aim to integrate patient and user perspectives in the research as well as to establish fruitful collaborations with user organizations.
We also engage in clinically relevant innovation and professional development by leading the national network for acute psychiatry (akuttnettverket.no). Furthermore, we collaborate with clinical departments at Ahus to continuously improve the quality of suicide prevention efforts.
